English Note
A lecture delivered by Natsume Sōseki to the Gakushūin Hojinkai on November 25, 1914. Drawing on his own struggle to find an intellectual path and his arrival at “self-centeredness” (自己本位), Sōseki argues that individuality, power, and wealth must be joined to respect for others and a sense of responsibility.
