Introduction
正岡子規の随筆『酒』は、三角術の試験前夜、勉強に行き詰まった学生時代の子規が友人と酒を飲みに出かけ、翌日の試験で百点中十四点を取った顛末をユーモラスに語る短篇です。明治期の学生生活や神保町の酒場の雰囲気を伝えながら、最後は酒と先生の双方に責任を分ける軽妙な一言で締めくくられます。短い本文の中で、文語的な否定表現や当時の語彙、数量表現を学べます。
English Note
In the short autobiographical essay Sake, Masaoka Shiki recalls a night before a trigonometry exam when, unable to make sense of his notes, he went drinking with a friend instead. The next day he received fourteen points out of one hundred, then humorously divided the blame between the alcohol and his teacher. The piece offers a lively glimpse of Meiji-era student life and useful examples of literary negatives, historical spellings, and measurement terms.
