Introduction
人々から少し変わった者と見られている虔十は、固い土の野原に七百本の杉苗を植えます。木々は高く育たなくても、林は子どもたちのかけがえのない遊び場になりました。時が流れ、工場や家に囲まれたその林を、かつて遊んだ一人の学者が再発見します。人の幸福と自然、記憶が静かに結びつく宮沢賢治の童話です。
English Note
Kenju, a gentle man whom the villagers consider odd, plants seven hundred cedar seedlings in a patch of hard, barren ground. Though the trees remain stunted, the grove becomes a treasured playground for local children. Years later, as factories and houses surround it, a scholar who played there as a child recognizes the grove's enduring value. Miyazawa Kenji's tale quietly joins nature, communal memory, and the meaning of happiness.
