Introduction
English Note
In this essay, Kiyoshi Miki criticizes scholars' fixation on original-language texts and their contempt for translation. He argues that language and thought cannot be separated, and that translation allows foreign ideas to take root and develop within one's own language. Drawing on Leibniz, Hegel, Buddhist texts, and Bible translation, Miki presents translation as an essential part of scholarship.
