Introduction
草津で病床にある語り手は、短い冬の日差し、雪解けの雫、吹雪、そして翌朝の光を細やかに見つめます。死を意識する孤独のなかで、身の回りのすべてが生きていると感じ、たとえ自分が死んでも太陽は変わらず照るという静かな受容へ至る、水野仙子の抒情的な短編です。
English Note
From a sickbed in Kusatsu, the narrator watches the brief winter sunlight, melting snow, a blizzard, and the brilliant morning that follows. Her fear of death gradually gives way to a quiet acceptance: the life around her continues, and the sun will shine unchanged. Mizuno Senko’s lyrical short story pairs intimate illness with vivid observations of the natural world.
