猫の耳を切符切りで挟んでみたいという幼い衝動から、爪を失った猫への空想、猫の前足を化粧道具にする夢へと連想が展開する短編です。梶井基次郎は、猫の身体への鋭い観察と黒いユーモアを重ね、愛情のすぐそばにある残酷さや不安を描きます。最後には、猫の温かな肉球を瞼に当てる静かな「愛撫」へと戻ります。
English Note
This short work begins with a childhood impulse to test a cat's ear with a ticket punch, then moves through fantasies of a clawless cat and a disturbing dream about a cat's paw used as a cosmetic tool. Kajii combines close observation of the animal body with dark humor, revealing how affection can sit beside cruelty and anxiety. The piece finally returns to a quiet caress: the warmth and weight of a kitten's paw pads resting on the narrator's eyelids.
